The history of the festival starts from the spring of 1967 when members of the Women’s Club of St. Francisville planted Chinese chestnut trees. This was done in an attempt to replace the ones that had died because of blight. This was the beginning of a tradition that sparked the celebration of the Chestnut festival for years to come.

The highlight of the festival is the parade, which takes place to complete the celebrations. The festival brings in many spectators from all over the county which use it as an opportunity to visit other sites in the city that include an old wooden bridge and log home along with a veteran’s memorial as well.
